![]() Imogen Cunningham 1952 She'd been an active photographer since the 1900's and did it for a living together with her husband Roi Partridge who was a printer by trade but also one of her models. Her nudes are again from a woman's point of view but totally different from Anne's above. ![]() The flatlands A self image not far from Boston camera on tripod. With the images above in mind I am hoping to find a model to pose in these flatlands and also at her home. It'll be a project that will take months Late February until late November |
Anne Wardrope Brigman (née Nott)1908 She was born in Hawaii in 1869 and trained as an artist. She moved to California when she was 16 and later married sea captain Martin Brigman. In 1902 she took up photography. By the time she took this self portrait she was a member of the Photo Secession dedicated to those who believed that photography is an art and not just a recording medium. Look at the way she stretches, the angle of her head and her taut torso. She called the photo "The soul of the blasted pine" you can see why. I first saw this about 60 years ago, it is always in my mind. ![]() Ruth Bernhard c. 1960's (b. 1905 - died 2006) This is one of a series of nudes posed by dancers from New York. They are a proper duo shoot with Ruth knowing that they can pose and making the best of what they can do. Why? Because they are of women by women and each one at its time ground breaking. ![]() |
